Hello,
The 2020-2021 school year is off to a great start. I want to thank everyone for all of the enthusiasm and effort you have brought to the start of the Fall semester. The future in our school district is bright and very exciting.
Over the past year, Trinity High School has developed a number of relationships with local businesses to better prepare our students for career and college readiness. Moreover, through several generous grants, we were able to accomplish our goal of creating a Washington County Renewable Energy Education Center at the high school. The grants were used to purchase three “SolarFlowers” as well as two windmills. We use the solar and wind power to offset energy costs, as well as shift the educational paradigm from textbook learning to true application of skills. Students are challenged to develop an understanding of the application of solar and wind technology and be able to procure cutting edge job skill sets applicable to immediate and future academic and employment opportunities.
Trinity also received approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Education for several new programs of study. They consist of Accounting Technology and Bookkeeping, Sports Medicine, Agricultural Production Operations, Veterinarian Technician, and Child Care and Support Services Management. Moreover, Trinity was the first school in the southwest area of the state to receive the Pennsylvania Department of Labor “Teacher in the Workplace” grant. A number of teachers completed a one week job placement at a variety of workplaces in Washington, Greene and Allegheny counties. They will continue to share their work experiences, as well as suggested curriculum enhancements that will better serve our students’ preparedness for careers in the near future. Clearly, there are many new and exciting changes happening this year.
I would also like to congratulate the students and staff on their successful implementation of the NMSI (National Math Science Initiative) program. Trinity students showed a 347% increase in qualifying AP scores over a four year period!!! The national average is 7%. Additionally, student enrollment in NMSI-related AP courses has increased.
Furthermore, our focus on personalized education and STEAM curriculum will better prepare our students for success upon graduation whether they are heading to college or the workforce. We will continue our partnerships with California University of Pennsylvania, Washington & Jefferson College, and Penn Commercial’s Toni & Guy Cosmetology Program for students to complete college and career training while enrolled in high school.
The Trinity High School faculty is very proud of the efforts being made to promote academic and personal success for all students and we look forward to supporting our total school community with continued excellence. We remain committed to the best, most differentiated and personalized instruction we can offer every student and we believe our relationships with local universities, employers and nonprofit organizations will provide the rich experiences that will enable our students to successfully fill future employment opportunities that exist in our region.
Wishing you all a wonderful year and please don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions or require any assistance. You can contact me directly at 724-223-2000 ext. 6501.
Sincerely,
Mr. Craig Uram
Principal
