Introduction

Welcome to German I!!!  The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the German language and its culture.  Students will have the opportunity to hear, to recognize, and to speak basic German.  This course is modeled after the Level I course at the high school.  Upon successful completion of this course, students will receive credit on his/her high school transcript and move on to Level II at the high school.

Goals

After successfully completing this course, students will be able to:

 •recall basic vocabulary

•recognize the letters of the alphabet, as well as the typical word order patterns of sentences

•have a simple conversation

•read and understand simple texts

•write simple sentences in the present tense

•be aware of basic aspects of the German culture

Required Materials

            •3-ring binder (1-1 ½ inch)

Grades

The nine-week grade will be composed of the students’ performance in the following areas:

Cultural Tidbits, Test/Quizzes, Homework/Daily Work, Class Participation, Binder
