Dear Parents,
Hello! My name is Kimberly Bruce and will be you child’s first grade teacher at Trinity East Elementary School. I am excited about and dedicated to the teaching profession. I graduated from California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I have also completed a Graduate Program at the same university with a Masters Degree in Education with certification as a Reading Specialist.
I have been teaching in the Trinity Area School District for fourteen years. My teaching experience over the past fourteen years has prepared me to create a classroom environment in which your child will be able to reach his/her full learning potential. I am excited about this year and look forward to working with you to accomplish your child’s academic goals.
It is my pleasure to welcome your child – and you to first grade at Trinity East Elementary School. I know this transition is a huge step for children, but I will do everything I can to make it as easy as possible.
If you have any ideas for a seasonal or holiday project, or if you have an activity or information that fits in with what we are working on in class, please let me know. If you are interested in volunteering we will work out some time for you to be our guest instructor! I feel that parental involvement is crucial in a child’s achievement and academic success. I look forward to the opportunity of working with you and your child this year. Together we will make a terrific team.
As a teacher I feel it is important to let you know exactly what will be going on in our classroom. Attached is some pertinent information concerning your child’s daily activities in the classroom. Please read over the information with your child and sign and return the attached paper on the first day of school.
If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to schedule a conference please feel free to contact me. I can be reached during school hours at 724-225-8140 extension 4102. If I am unable to answer your call at that time please leave me a voice mail and I will return your call as soon as possible. You can also reach me by e mail at kbruce@trinityhillers.net. Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kimberly Bruce

Homework Policy
In first grade, the students will at times have homework to reinforce the lessons we are working with in school. Homework will give the children a chance to practice new skills. It will also give you an opportunity to see what your first-grader is learning.
Our assignments and important information will be located on the “bring back” side of your child’s Take Home Folder. This folder should be brought home every night. This will be a means of communication and observation of your child’s work and assignments. Items located in the “bring back” side of the folder must be returned the following day. Items in the “keep at home” side should be taken out and kept home daily.
I will complete a homework check every morning. Whenever a student does not have a finished homework assignment, he or she will be given time to complete it at recess.
If a student is absent, schoolwork can be sent home. Please call the school office as early in the day as possible so I will have time to get the homework ready. The work can be picked up in the office after 2:00, or I can send it with another child. Please have that child notify me in the morning so I can have the work ready. If you know your child will be out of school for a few days, please notify the office and I will prepare their work for their time at home.
Your help in monitoring your child’s Take Home Folder and the completion of homework assignments is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your cooperation and support. Together we can make this a successful year for your child!
